Not So Waterproof...

Maybelline Big Eyes Waterproof Mascara

It's been several years since I have been able to find (and in most cases afford) a decent water proof mascara and I have to tell you that my most recent purchase seems to be the ultimate fail. Truth be told you get what you pay for, but man what a disappointment! I bought it with the expectation that I would be spending time in the water this year, which has proven to just not be true. Because I haven't been able to get out to the pool or lake I decided to try it out in the shower. I figure without the added chemicals and what not of a pool, a worthy waterproof mascara should hold up, right? Wrong. I made the conscience decision to not go through my normal routine of stripping off my makeup before entering the shower in hopes of validation that this product would live up to everything I thought it could be. *sigh*  Just no.

The first red flag was when I let the water run over my face for a moment; when I pulled away and halfway patted my eyes (because not even great mascara is 100% waterproof) my eyes started to burn and there were black flakes on my hands. Some might say I didn't actually buy the waterproof and actually purchased the regular formula, but I spent a good 30 minutes or so doing nothing but reading labels on different products before I made my final decision. A big deciding factor in this particular tube was because of the double ended brush. The bottom brush is small and is perfect for the lower lashes.

After the mild burning sensation, I noticed that my lash lines felt pretty sticky. Yuck. I'm glad I decided to try this in the privacy of my own home before taking this out for the world to see the horrible mess.

Remember the blue eyeliner from Cover Girl I mentioned in a previous post? It isn't even advertised as waterproof and when I got out of the shower, it was still just as bright and sparkling as it was when I put it on this morning. I actually couldn't get it off of my face without using eye makeup remover. Because of this I plan on going and buying just about every color that tickles my fancy. This eyeliner is more appealing to me everyday!

I should have taken pictures of the mess, but I will have to redo this for y'all in the near future.

Have you tried this mascara? Did you have the same experience or even a better one? Let me know in the comments below! I'd love to hear from you!
